Cervical Spine Surgery

What is Cervical Spine Surgery ?

The goal of cervical spine surgery is to relieve pain, numbness, tingling and weakness, restore nerve function and stop or prevent abnormal motion in the spine. Your surgeon does this by removing a disc or a bone and fusing the vertebrae together with a bone graft either in front of or behind the spine. The bone graft may be one of two types: an autograft (bone taken from your body) or an allograft (bone from a bone bank). Sometimes metal plates, screws or wires are also used to further stabilize the spine. These techniques are called instrumentation. When the vertebrae have been surgically stabilized, abnormal motion is stopped and function is restored to the spinal nerves.

Stop Smoking

If you smoke, it is important that you stop smoking for at least two weeks before your surgery and for six weeks after your surgery. Studies have shown that smoking interferes with healing of your bone graft.

Activity

Activity is a very important part of your recovery. Since walking is the best way to recuperate and heal tissue, there are no restrictions for walking or stair climbing. You should not lift any objects heavier than 10 pounds, especially over your head, for the first four to six weeks at home.

You can sleep in any position that is comfortable for you, as long as your collar/brace is worn properly. Many patients find it comfortable to sleep in a reclining chair, or with a pillow under their shoulders, allowing their neck to extend into a comfortable position. You may not drive but you can take short rides as a passenger.

Medical Doctor

Your orthopedic doctor may ask you to visit a medical doctor to be sure you have no health problems that could interfere with your surgery. The medical doctor will confer with your family physician or internist about any specific medical problems you may have. He or she will also follow your medical status during your hospital stay.

Cervical Deformity

Patients with a deformity in their cervical spine, such as hyperlordosis or swan neck deformity, may benefit from surgery to straighten and stabilize the spine. Injury Since the neck is so flexible it is vulnerable to injury. Some injuries can cause a fracture and or dislocation of the cervical vertebra. In a severe injury the spinal cord may also be damaged. Patients with a fracture, especially with spinal cord damage, undergo surgery to relieve pressure on the spinal cord and stabilize the spine.

Preadmission Testing and Evaluation

Your doctor's office will schedule your appointment to have a preadmission evaluation,

A bit of my back tooth with filling has broken off HELP?

My back tooth with a large filling in. A bit of my tooth has just fallen off the front of it whilst eating chocolate. Will get aapointment at dentist tomoz but scared they will take my tooth out. Any ideas what they will do & how much likely to cost also on maternity leave at mo will I get it free

A large filling indicates that the remaining tooth is thin, weak, and brittle. Refilling only takes away more tooth structure and you end up with a worse situation. At this stage the tooth should be strengthened and protected with some kind of crown. Good luck.

How can I make my Sister's Baby Shower EXTRA special with UNIQUE details?

I am throwing my sister's baby shower next weekend, and have all the basics covered, such as food, punch, centerpieces, baloons, etc..
Now I am looking for those extra details one can do to make it extra special and add that "WOW factor."
I want her to be completely wow'd when she walks in the door!
Things I have already done:
~Got a chocolate fountain
~Blew up ultrasound pictures of her baby and framed them to place around the party.
~Slideshow of her Maternity pictures
~Personalized cookies with her baby's name on them.
~Blueberries frozen in ice cubes.

are you doing games? If so, you can buy 5 or 6 baby food jars, peel the labels and have people guess what's in them.

I must say that I REALLY love your ideas for her shower. It's hard to outdo that. Do you have favors for everyone? At my friend's baby shower, they had nice smelling candles out for everyone.

You should do this as it was done to mine and many others I know....Have baby or small child pics of your sister and her husband/boyfriend.

Also, you can have a smaller pic of baby's ultrasound somehow put in the middle of a 12 x 12 paper or bigger (however you want) and have people sign it and write personal messages.

What is this shirt? Halter Top?

I have this one shirt that is like a halter top, but instead of just being string that ties behind your neck, it is like filled in... almost like a regular Sleeveless Shirt but instead of going into two straps it becomes a halterneck. I was wondering if this is just a style of halterneck, or if it is called something else, because I would love to get more! Please let me know

If the top of your back is exposed, and it ties around your neck, it would still be considered a halter.

What are the types of dresses called that are similar to halter-tops but is closed all the way up to the neck?

I've been trying to find my favorite type of dress/shirt that is similar to a halter-top but isn't open in the front. It is very classy looking and I love it but whenever I search halter-tops or halter-dresses on eBay or amazon it brings up the type that ties and is usually a v-neck. So I am wondering if the closed, high neck halter has a specific name. Thanks!

About how much would it cost to replace tie rods and a front axle?

Just ballpark. For a 2002 nissan altima.
Hmm, I don't know. Are tie rod ends more expensive?

Probably about $200-$300, unless those axles are a turd for some reason.

Edit: Tie rods or tie rod ends? The above estimate assumed ends. If it's the whole tie rod, then there's really no way to ballpark it as that's something that goes into the rack and is vastly different on each car.

And you'll also need an alignment which is about $90.

Why do I keep receiving these annoying emails in which the sender tries to sell me nursing bras?

Recently, I've been receiving a boatload of emails in which the sender keeps trying to sell me nursing bras. I don't know what I did to elicit such emails, but whatever it was, these emails need to stop. Geez, don't they realize my supply of milk dried up a long time ago...?!!!

I receive emails for drugs that will enhance a part of the anatomy that I don't have. Who knows how we get on these lists?

Where is the best place online to buy nursing bras?

I am rather large in the bust size, I was fitted when I purchased my last 2 nursing bras and I was a 44 G. Where is a good place to buy nursing bras online that would carry this size with good support at a reasonable price.

1st make sure you really are that size--as there is a lot of confusion these days about the correct method to measure. Many stores still do it incorrectly. Where can I find hooter covers?

I'm planning to breast feed my 2nd child again and and on another site found someone who posted a hooter cover on their post. They seem very modest and look like a actual shirt. Are there any places (i.e Wal-Mart, Maternity stores) that I can purchase them or can you only buy them online? That is actually what they're called. I know baby au lait makes them, but I would not purchase them online if they are available anywhere on store shelves.

the peanut shell covers are sold at target-so you don't have to buy them online and pay s/handling. they have lots of cute fabrics too!

New Line of Abercrombie Stretch Jeans: Do they stretch a lot?

I have the old abercrombie jeans that are 100% cotton but they stretch a lot after I wear them several times. Does anyone know if the new abercrombie stretch emma Boot Cut Jeans Stretch because according to the size chart I'm between a size 0 and 2 but I bought a size 0 (fits snug) and wonder if they stretch out a lot? I don't want jeans that stretch out and sag after wearing a couple times...

i don't know if it's true but if it's 100% cotton won't it shrink?
i would have gotten a 2 and it might have shrinken to a 0 or 1..

Does anyone know who still makes 100% cotton jeans anymore. I hate the stretch jeans.?

Go over to American Eagle, cuz they still have 100% cotton versions of many of their jeans. Try the Hipster or Boyfriend.... They'll be clearanced this month, so they'll be reduced and sizes will disappear....

Does anyone know what Target's maternity guidelines are for working their?

I obtained a cashier postion and will tell them I am pregnant at orientation. Do they allow any additonal breaks, ect. I dont expect paid leave or anything like that. I am just concerned about the amount of time on my feet.
I am just about 5 months, but slightly overweight. Since it is my first, I can hide it. However, I dont know for how much longer.

I wouldn't tell them until after 3 months. They could fire you and make up a reason. You'd better get paid leave you are entitled to it. You are not being dishonest by not telling them at this point. You will not get extra breaks. They would likely let you go.

where can i find Cute Maternity clothest that arent expensive?

I have tried penneys, kohls, target, wal mart and many more but cannot find anythign cute. The pants all make my crotch look saggy and my butt look flat. thanks

definately try Ross or Marshalls. ive bought cute stylist Maternity Tops there for only $5.99- $7.00.
as for the pants, ive never bought Maternity Pants because none of them ever fit me right. i bought the victorias secret fold over Yoga Pants, i believe there $19 a pair, but there excellent to wear around the house or out in town. they are definately worth it, they fit me my whole pregnancy and i still wear them now. i have about 6 pairs of them =)
